"When I'm ready to make a
photograph, I think I quite obviously see in my minds eye something
that is not literally there in the true meaning of the word. I'm
interested in something which is built up from within, rather than
just extracted from without." ~Ansel Adams

The images you
will find in the galleries listed on the left of this page represent
over 20 years of my life as experienced through the art of
photography. Photography is an integral part of my life; more to the
point, it is central to how I express my experience of the world.
When —through the camera— I direct my attention toward a subject, I
try to attune all my senses to the subject, as well as to the
broader environment. What I am hearing, feeling,
smelling, tasting, are as important to the final product as what I'm
seeing through the viewfinder.
The true challenge for me has always
been how to communicate this kind of multi-sensory experience in a
two dimensional medium. Fortunately, computer and software tools
have made this possible.
In these galleries you will find very
few "literal" images. Instead, what I have tried to do is represent
meaning, to communicate what I experienced as the image was being
created. While the result is very personal, my hope is that you, my
guest, will find some images that "resonate" with your own
experience. |
